Abstract

This study aims to monitor the growth dynamics of wheat crops in Al-Dafnia region, Misurata Libya, during the 2022-2023 agricultural season using Sentinel-2 satellite data. Remote sensing technologies, specifically NDVI (Normalized Difference vegetation Index), were used to evaluate the vegetation status across different growth stages from planting to harvesting. Images from Sentinel-2 were processed using ArcGIS. With a custom Model Builder workflow to automate NDVI calculation and extract temporal data. The results revealed a gradual increase in NDVI values during the vegetative stages, peaking during elongation, followed by noticeable decline during the maturity stage. This reflects the potential of NDVI in estimating crop health and development. The study emphasizes the efficiency of combining satellite data with GIS tools to achieve, timely crop monitoring and recommends expanding the methodology to include other crop types and environmental variables for improved decision – making in agriculture.
