Abstract

The growing need for sustainable resource management and environmentally responsible exploration has highlighted the importance of integrating emerging geoscientific approaches into national development strategies. Although Libya possesses significant hydrocarbon resources and diverse geological settings, the application of seismic geochemistry remains limited despite its considerable potential for supporting both energy exploration and environmental management. This study explores the role of seismic geochemistry as an innovative tool for sustainable development in Libya. The proposed framework emphasizes the integration of geochemical indicators with seismic surveys, geological information, well data, hydrogeochemical observations, and environmental monitoring to improve subsurface characterization and resource assessment. Particular attention is given to the identification of geochemical anomalies associated with tectonic activity, hydrocarbon migration, groundwater systems, and environmental hazards. The study demonstrates that integrating seismic geochemistry within multidisciplinary exploration workflows can improve hydrocarbon prospecting, reduce exploration uncertainty, enhance groundwater assessment, strengthen environmental impact evaluation, and support evidence-based resource management. Furthermore, the proposed approach contributes to minimizing environmental risks while improving exploration efficiency through advanced geochemical interpretation. The findings highlight the potential of seismic geochemistry as a strategic decision-support tool capable of promoting sustainable development in Libya by integrating scientific innovation, environmental protection, digital geological analysis, and responsible management of natural resources. The proposed framework further supports sustainable development in Libya's resource-rich regions by enhancing environmentally responsible hydrocarbon exploration, strengthening evidence-based resource governance, and promoting long-term economic and environmental sustainability.
